There are countless options to manage your weight, many of these options leave us feeling unsuccessful at losing weight or even managing a healthy weight over the long term. Here at Black Hive Athletics, we hold true to the basics for weight loss and long-term weight management.

The key is in moderation, not elimination
Some of the biggest temptations people face daily are high-fat, high sugar snack foods and drinks. People often cut these items out when they diet just to find themselves eating as they were before. Instead of eliminating choices, we prefer to make weight loss permanent and cut calories by decreasing portion sizes and avoiding “empty calories” (i.e. foods without nutritional value).
The human body needs the right fuel, just as much as it needs fuel, it also needs variety.
We encourage our members to include nutrient-rich foods that are packed with energy, protein, vitamins and minerals. When shopping, we encourage members to look to the four corners of the supermarket: fruits and vegetables from the produce aisles, whole grains from the bakery, low-fat dairy products from the dairy case, and lean proteins from the meat/fish/poultry department.
What you eat is just one part of the energy balance equation.
How does weight gain happen? Most of the time, people gain weight because they consume more calories than they burn on daily activities.
This leaves people two options for weight loss:
- Cutting calories
- Expending more energy
A healthy individual should participate in a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity each day. To reach a healthy weight, you may need to include 60 minutes per day or a CrossFit Black Hive class. How much activity do you usually get now?
